Former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin says that there appears to be more belief and confidence surrounding Chelsea since the arrival of Guus Hiddink.
He expects Cesc Fabregas to be the main man when the club take on Everton in the FA Cup quarter-final. This game takes huge importance due to the disappointing campaign that has seen Chelsea struggle to even make it into the top half of the table. Since Hiddink achieved success in this competition in his first spell at the interim manager, the club are expecting a similar kind of result this time around.
For success in the FA Cup, Chelsea should first focus on getting past Everton in the quarter-finals. This is easier said than done since the game is at Goodison Park where the club are expected to get some hostile home support. Nevin says that Fabregas should be the player who can be trusted to deliver the goods at the situation. This is largely due to the absence of Eden Hazard as a major threat throughout the campaign. The Belgian winger was crowned as the PFA player of the year last season, but he is yet to score in the league this season. Such has been the drop in his performances that only a handful of names are delivering.
"There is more lightness and belief about Chelsea's football now. There were several factors that caused the problems in the first half of the season, before Guus arrived. When one or two big players are not playing well it can really have an effect on a team. Of late, Diego Costa and Fabregas have been fantastic for Chelsea. We are still waiting for Eden Hazard. He is not back to his best yet. It has taken the big players to get back to some kind of form. You have got to give Guus a lot of credit for that,” said Nevin.
