AS Monaco midfielder Cesc Fabregas has vowed to see out his contract at the club despite a lack of regular playing time. Fabregas revealed that his intention is to play for the French giants until the end of his contract next summer.
Fabregas, 33, left Chelsea to join Monaco in January 2019 after almost five years at Stamford Bridge. The Spaniard had a very good career with the Blues before he left for France. He talked about his intention to finish his Monaco contract in an interview with Telefoot.
Spanish international Cesc Fabregas has been able to propel Monaco to be a real force in French football once again. He recently scored the opening goal in a 4-0 win at home to 10-man Metz. The Spaniard scored the first goal from the penalty spot on 50 minutes before Kevin Vollandadded a second goal two minutes later. French international Wissem Ben Yedder then scored a late brace to make the victory a comprehensive one for his team.
The Metz game was the penultimate league match for AS Monaco. In their last league outing, StevanJovetic and Ben Yedder (two goals) scored for hosts Monaco in a 3-0 win over Dijon. Cesc Fabregas and Monaco have won the last three games in the league. The club's form over the past months under manager Niko Kovac has transformed the former champions into title contenders.
Monaco are in third place on the league standings and are four points off leaders Lille in the race for the title. Holders Paris Saint Germain (PSG) are in second place on the table and they have one more point than Monaco, while Lyon in fourth place have one point less than Niko Kovac's men. Monaco ended a barren run of 17 years to win the league title at the end of the 2016/17 campaign and they could win another one four years later if they are able to see off Lille, PSG and Lyon for the title.
