Monaco are inching their way up the French Ligue 1 table after a 1-0 success over Dijon just before the international break. The team were able to overcome the 1-0 loss against St Etienne in quick fashion. Monaco are still missing the services of important players like Cesc Fabregas, who is out with a hamstring injury.Fabregas has not featured for the team since the 1-0 win over Nantes. The former Chelsea midfielder has only featured in eight league matches so far. Even though he has not contributed any goals, the 32-year-old has been responsible for two assists.
The recent match against Dijon ended in success for Monaco thanks to a solitary goal from Aleksandr Golovin. His goal just three minutes before half-time was an accurate reflection of the game’s direction. Monaco had more of the ball and they also had more shots on target. This advantage helped them immensely when trying to make their way up the league table. After initially struggles, Monaco have been able to register four wins in the last five games across all competitions. This includes a win over Marseille in the Coupe de la Ligue. This form is a substantial improvement over the return of two wins from the first nine games of the campaign.
“Our goal is always to play at the top of the table, we started out with a big gap, but now we are recovering and we will continue to work for our goal,” said Jardim after the game. If this current form continues, Monaco will be within touching distance of the top four places. Even though the team are 11th in the standings, they are just two points away from the top four places. Monaco return to league action just after the international break with an away game against Bordeaux, who are one point ahead in the table.
