Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante has said that the Blues can turn the season into a success by going on to win the Europa League title. The west London giants recently progressed to the semi-final of the competition after a 6-3 aggregate triumph over Slavia Prague and they are now regarded as the front-runners to secure the European crown.
Speaking to BT Sport, Kante said that the players want to make the season beautiful by securing the Europa League title for the second time in their history, he quipped: “We can make the season beautiful by winning the Europa League. That’s the only title we can win now, so it would be great to win the Europa League.”
However, the World Cup winner suggested that the Blues are not favourites to secure the crown while they must avoid the tendency of conceding cheap goals during the second half of games, he added: “We’re not favourites. We played a good match tonight and we will do all we can to get to the final. But we’re not favourites. [The second half implosion] is just something that has happened many times this season and something we need to manage a bit better. But we still have to work on that.”
The Capital outfit are scheduled to face Eintracht Frankfurt at the semi-final stage of the Europa League but the result may not be straightforward with the German side possessing the likes of Luka Jovic and Ante Rebic upfront, who can make the difference. Should they progress, they still have to tackle Arsenal or Valencia during the final where they would require a strong performance across all departments to prevail.
Chelsea will switch their attention to Premier League action on Monday night where they face Burnley at Stamford Bridge. The game remains a must-win for them, considering any other outcome could see them lose ground on the top four. The Blues are currently behind fourth-placed Arsenal on goal difference, but they have played an extra game more.
