Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas failed to come off the bench as his AS Monaco team secured an impressive win at the home of champions Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday. Cesc Fabregas was an unused substitute as Monaco boosted their title hopes with a 2-0 away win over PSG thereby handing the champions a huge blow in their quest to win the league title again. PSG have won the last three league titles in the French top flight and a fourth successive league title is in serious doubts especially after the defeat to fellow title contenders AS Monaco at the weekend. In the first meeting, AS Monaco came back from two goals to beat PSG 3-2 at home.
Cesc Fabregas proved to be the catalyst for the Monaco victory from that first league meeting of this season. He came off the bench to score from the penalty spot and also provide an assist to lead the principality club to an excellent comeback victory. Cesc Fabregas didn't have to rescue AS Monaco for their second league meeting with PSG as they were in control for the majority of the game. French forward SofianeDiop gave Monaco the lead with just six minutes on the clock before Chileancentre backGuillermeMaripan made sure of the points at the start of the second half. Monaco led by a lone goal at half-time and their hosts would have plotted a way back into the game ahead of the second half . The plan to get back into the game flew out of the window after six second half minutes when the aforementioned Maripan sealed victory. Monaco were able to control the game from the defensive point for the rest of the game.
