Former Arsenal and Chelsea playmaker Cesc Fabregas has praised Thomas Tuchel despite the UEFA Champions League (UCL) elimination at the hands of Real Madrid in the quarterfinals.Cesc Fabregas took to his official Twitter account to laud the quality shown by German tactician Thomas Tuchelsince he was appointed as the Chelsea manager at the start of last year.
On Tuchel, AS Monaco midfielder Cesc Fabregas said that Chelsea are lucky to have the ex-Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint Germain (PSG) boss irrespective of what happens in the future with the club's ownership still undecided. Roman Abramovich is no longer the Chelsea owner and four bidders are reportedly vying to become the owner.
Russian billionaire Abramovich was sanctioned by both the EU (European Union) and UK (United Kingdom) due to his close relationship with Russian president Vladimir Putin who masterminded the invasion of Ukraine earlier this year.
Fabregas was impressed with Tuchel and his Chelsea players as they almost overturned their first leg deficit to Real Madrid. Frenchman Karim Benzema scored three times to lead Real Madrid to a 3-1 win over the reigning Champions League holders Chelsea. With his treble at Stamford Bridge, the Real Madrid striker became the fourth player to score three goals in two straight Champions League games joining the trio of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luiz Adriano. He was also able to close the gap on Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski in the race for the Golden Boot. The hat-trick moved him within one goal of the Poland international.
In the second leg, Chelsea raced into a three-nil lead thanks to the goals from Mason Mount, Antonio Rudiger and Timo Werner before Real Madrid substitute Rodrygo Goes forced extra time with his goal. Benzema then scored his fourth goal in two games against Chelsea in extra time to send Real Madrid through to the last four of this season’s Champions League via a 3-2 defeat on the night and a 5-4 aggregate victory.
