Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has raised more questions about the future of Cesc Fabregas after refusing to comment about the midfielder in his first press conference as the Barcelona manager. Enrique was appointed as the new manager of Barcelona after the club decided to part ways with Argentine Gerardo Martino. The disappointing campaign in which the club failed to win any major trophy for the first time in almost decade is excited to bring several changes both in terms of playing and managerial staff.
The first of the changes came in the form of Enrique, who was a former captain at the club, being appointed as the manager. The playing staff are expected to undergo significant transformation with the fringe players likely to leave. Barcelona have already been linked with a number of high-profile names like Thibaut Courtois. They have already signed a goalkeeper to replace Victor Valdes. The transfer activity may not be over, as they are looking to sign a defender with the likes of David Luiz of Chelsea in mind. In order to fund those purchases, some of the star names may be sold and this includes Fabregas.
The former Arsenal man has been linked with a return to the Premier league after enduring a disappointing two seasons at the club.
"In principle, we have not taken any decisions like that because we still have time. Some players are now focused on the World Cup finals, which is their job, and how it should be. We need to assess and evaluate now and when the time is right we will go into that and we will talk about everything. He is a friend and a former team-mate. We will sit down and talk about what he wants and what we want," said the manager about Cesc Fabregas and Xavi.
