Tottenham’s Title Challenging Position Does Not Matter in the FA Cup, says Fabregas

Cesc Fabregas says that Tottenham being the title challengers for Chelsea in the Premier League does not change things when the two teams face each other in the FA Cup semi-final this weekend.

The match is a repeat of the semi-final that took place a few years ago. Back then, Chelsea managed a resounding 5-0 win over the illustrious London rivals. However, the probability of the same repeating is extremely low considering that Tottenham are one of the strongest defensive options in European football this season.

The strong defence has enabled the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli to push forward without worrying about defending. The club have managed to win the last seven league matches without exception and it has put them within four points of Chelsea with six matches left in the campaign. There is a real possibility of Spurs pulling off a miracle by managing to win their first league title in several decades. Chelsea, meanwhile, are looking to win the Premier league and FA Cup at the same time.

This would be some solace for the club, which has not had Champions League football this season. Coming on the back of two defeats in the last four matches, the club will have to find their feet sooner enough in order to avoid disappointment in both competitions.

"I don’t believe the fact Spurs are our title challenges makes a difference. In football every competition is different. You need to focus on different things. You are playing to be in a final, not for three points or one point. There is not really a connection in my mind, and I think my teammates’ mind, between the FA Cup and the league. We need to be positive, we need to stand up and focus on a very important game in a competition we have worked hard on during the season,” said Fabregas.
